Poydras Street Tour

  • Outside Harrah's Casino (Corner of Poydras and Convention Center) 155 Poydras Street New Orleans, LA, 70130 United States (map)

The New Orleans Architecture Foundation (NOAF) is pleased to announce the Poydras Street Architectural Walking Tour as its latest offering of quality education programming focused on the rich architecture of New Orleans. The walking tour explores the early development and growth of what has become the heart of the Central Business District (CBD): the Poydras Street corridor. Looking into the past and present-day conditions of this illustrious, if under-explored, segment of the City’s rich urban and architectural tapestry, we will discuss the architecture, the economy that drove their development, and how these buildings and spaces have shaped and influenced the ongoing development of Poydras Street and the CBD as a whole.

Architectural highlights of the walk include the World Trade Center (1967), One Shell Square (1972), Federal Plaza, the Superdome (1975), Lafayette Square, City Hall (1958), and Piazza d’Italia (1978), and many more buildings and urban spaces. We will share history, architectural details, and other design intent that went into the development of Poydras Street. From skyscrapers to public squares and everything in between, this tour captures the diverse architectural richness of Poydras Street!

The tour will be led by New Orleans' architect, Shannon French, and accompanied by members of the NOAF Board. The tour is $20 for "Friends of NOAF", $30 for general tickets and is open to the public. Only 25 spots are available. Registration is required.

**The tour will begin promptly at 9:30am outside Harrah's Casino, at the corner of Poydras St. and Convention Center Blvd. Come prepared for weather, with cool clothes and water.
