Use cutting edge technology in building imaging and 3D modeling to tour the once-grand Rivergate Convention Center, which was demolished in 1995. The majestic c.1968 building by Curtis and Davis featured a record-breaking cantilevered concrete roof and was beloved by many architecture enthusiasts.
Using the provided virtual reality headsets and each participant's own smartphone, viewers will feel as if they are standing inside the building, viewing the incredible entryway, mezzanine, exposition hall and conference rooms.
Take a sneak peek inside the building here. See the rest of the building and enjoy other aspect of this emerging technology Thursday evening.
$30, $15 for members (PRC, NOAF, or DOCOMOMO). Space is limited and advance registration is recommended. Become a member today!
This event concludes the 2018 Mid Mod Summer Series, a partnership between the Preservation Resource Center, the New Orleans Architecture Foundation and DOCOMOMO US/ Louisiana - exploring and celebrating New Orleans' mid-century modern architecture.
A HUGE thank you to CICADA, M3 Design Group, PACE Group LLC, Roy Anderson Contractors, studioBKA, Emile Lejeune and Sim Ward for "reconstructing" the Rivergate as a 3D digital model for the VR Tour. Special thanks to Southeastern Architectural Archive for providing incredible photographs of this iconic structure, and to Lettermans for printing materials for the event.
