Join New Orleans Architecture Foundation for a special walking tour of Oretha Castle Haley Blvd. and some of the incredible redevelopment that has happened in the past two decades. The tour will led by Lisa Pompa, Executive Director of the OC Haley Merchants and Business Association, as well as Ella Camburnbeck, Executive Director of Felicity Redevelopment.
The tour will begin at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, continue down the boulevard to discuss developments like People's Health Jazz Market, Toups South, and Ashe Cultural Arts Center. We will begin back toward St. John and meet representatives from Casa Borrega and Café Reconcile and end at Dryades Public Market for guests to network, and grab some food and drinks to end the evening.
Oretha Castle Haley Boulevard is a New Orleans cultural district, made famous in the years leading up to the Civil Rights movement. Having been barred from other venues in the city, black musicians, including legends such as Buddy Bolden and Professor Longhair, set up shop along the Central City thoroughfare.
Today O.C. Haley is an up-and-coming commercial, arts, and culinary thoroughfare. Cultural centers, such as the Ashe Cultural Arts Center and the Southern Food and Beverage Museum ensure that the neighborhood’s history is preserved and available for anyone who would like to discover more.
The tour will begin at 6:00pm. Please plan to arrive a few minutes early to gather as a group. Parking will be available at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
